Voices Across Generations: Afghan Women's Untold Stories Debut at NSW Parliament
A new documentary by Afghan Women on the Move and Mercy Works celebrates the courage, resilience and unbreakable bond between thirteen Afghan mothers and daughters.
On 2 March, we proudly launched My Mother and I: The Untold Stories of Afghan Women at Parliament of NSW
We were deeply honoured by the presence of Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, and, His Excellency Ambassador Wahidullah Waissi Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan - Canberra, Mr Stephen Bali MP, Bernadette Or, Chair of Afghan Women on the Move, Sally Bradley Executive Director of Mercy Works, Abdullah Popal Creative Director from Your Media Studio, along with distinguished guests, community leaders, partners, friends, and most importantly the mothers and daughters who entrusted us with their stories.
This powerful documentary shares the voices of thirteen Afghan mother and daughter pairs, capturing resilience, courage, sacrifice, identity, and hope across generations. Many of these stories were shared publicly for the very first time.
Created by Afghan Women on the Move in partnership with Mercy Works, this film is more than a documentary. It is a tribute to the strength of Afghan women and the unbreakable bond between mothers and daughters. The impact of these stories continues to resonate, sparking meaningful conversations about culture, belonging, and the power of women speaking in their own words.
