Special Screening Brings Untold Stories of Afghan Women in Australia to Colebee, Blacktown
A powerful short documentary amplifying the voices of Afghan women living in Australia will be screened at a special community event in Western Sydney later this month.
My Mother & I: The Untold Stories of Afghan Women will be screened on Wednesday 22 April, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm, at The Colebee, Nurragingy Reserve, Doonside NSW. The event invites the community to come together for an evening of storytelling, reflection and cultural connection.
Far more than a film, My Mother & I is a moving testament to resilience, love and intergenerational strength. Through intimate and deeply personal storytelling, Afghan mothers and daughters share their journeys, illuminating experiences that are often unheard and unseen. Their stories speak of courage, migration, identity and hope — and the powerful bonds that connect generations.
The documentary was created in partnership with Mercy Works and the inspiring women of Afghan Women on the Move, honouring voices that deserve to be preserved and remembered. Together, they have crafted a work that bridges generations while safeguarding cultural heritage that might otherwise be lost.
On the night, attendees will:
Watch this moving documentary in a beautiful community setting
Meet the women whose stories shine on screen
Be part of a growing movement celebrating courage, resilience and cultural preservation
This special screening is proudly hosted by Blacktown City Council, reflecting a shared commitment to celebrating diversity, storytelling and community connection.
Places are limited, and community members are encouraged to secure their spot early.
