AFGHAN WOMEN ON THE MOVE WINS NSW EMPOWERING & SUPPORTING LOCAL COMMUNITIES GRANT
AWOTM volunteers have secured a grant from Multicultural NSW to deliver place-based, community-led solutions to the most vulnerable communities who may be experiencing unique barriers and challenges during COVID-19.
Afghan Women on the Move (AWOTM) is pleased to announce that it has been successful in the recent grant round, securing funds to support our work to improve the Afghan community’s understanding of Covid safe lifestyles. We will focus on our community’s vaccination rates in targeted LGAs, reduce transmission, build capacity and encourage resilience within Afghan and multicultural communities across Western Sydney.
The grant is an important recognition of the reach that AWOTM has in the Afghan community of Sydney and the capacity it has to mobilise volunteers and community to work together to address COVID-19 challenges.
We are proud of the work we are already undertaking with the local community to address barriers and challenges to ensuring a COVID-safe society.
At the moment we have a particular focus on new arrival Afghans to ensure they understand and respond to the need for COVID safe behaviours, as well as ensure they get vaccinated and reduce transmission.
A team of volunteers is working hard to help the Afghan community to navigate Australian government and business services, COVID-19 information, testing and vaccination centres.
